what we believe

Northside's Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Covenant are fundamental to its mission and operations. These important documents are created and maintained by the Church Council.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the verbally-inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts, and the final authority for personal faith and conduct.

We believe in one true and living God, eternally existing in three persons - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit – co-equal in power and glory. He is the creator and sustainer of all things, and the author of salvation.

We believe that mankind, male and female, is created in the Image of God, and intended to glorify God. All humans descend from an original pair, Adam and Eve, who were created by a direct act of God, as described in Genesis 1 and 2. God created male and female as co-equal image bearers of God.

We believe that by a willful act of disobedience, our original parents brought sin and death into our world. As a result, all mankind are sinners, and, by nature and choice, are polluted by and bent toward sin, and under God’s righteous wrath.

We believe that God mercifully provided a way for salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus took on flesh, fully God and fully man, lived sinlessly, died as a substitutionary atoning sacrifice on the cross, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. Salvation is a gift of God received solely by grace through repentance and faith in the work of Jesus, by which Christians are forgiven, redeemed, justified, and sanctified.

We believe that Christians are called to keep in step with the Spirit, turning from sin, producing fruit in keeping with repentance, and growing into the likeness of Jesus. Growing in personal righteousness and dying to self and sin is a work of the Holy Spirit, who fully indwells all believers.

We believe gender is part of God’s good pre-Fall Creation, and is designed, defined, and delimited by God. Gender is determined by God at conception. As such, humans do not have the authority to change their gender. God designed marriage to be a life-long covenant between one man and one woman. God designed sexual/romantic intimacy for the sole context of marriage. We believe that same-sex attractions are a result of the Fall, and that acting upon these attractions, in mind or in body, constitutes sin.

We believe that believers should belong to a biblically-faithful local church who gathers regularly for worship, prayer, instruction in God’s Word, fellowship, and service.

We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, when the dead will be raised, all people will be judged (the believer for reward and the unbeliever for condemnation), God’s people and God’s creation will be glorified, and evil will be forever punished.

lifestyle covenant

We believe that the Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith and living. As such, we require the NCS staff, faculty, and volunteers to conduct their private and public lives in a manner consistent with the teachings of Scripture. This includes, but is not limited to:

1. Seeking to glorify God in all we say and do.

2. Worshipping regularly with a like-minded local church who is faithful to the teachings of Scripture.

3. Honoring the Image of God in all human life.

4. Abstaining from all forms of sexual activity prohibited in Scripture, include adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexuality, incest, and pornography.

5. Pursuing honest and controlled communication and turning from that which is crude, profane, and corrupting.

6. Avoiding any form of drug/alcohol abuse, drunkenness, and illegal and impairing drug/alcohol consumption.

7. Affirming and supporting Northside’s Statement of Faith in word and deed.

The purpose of the NCS lifestyle covenant is to establish and, when necessary, to enforce expectations for our local Christian educational community. NCS reserves the right to terminate employment in cases where individuals violate this lifestyle covenant and/or demonstrate a continued disregard for any part of this covenant. NCS also reserves the right to consider the facts of each case on an individual basis and to enforce this policy as NCS leadership sees fit according to the particulars of the individual situation.
